Dear Colleague
The Social Care Challenge
You will not have failed to have noticed that the delivery and funding of social care has become a crucial part of the election campaign unveiled by all the major political parties.
In order to ensure that we maximise on the public interest in social care at the current time, and in an effort to ‘educate’ politicians about the real world of care that we operate in, National Care Association on behalf of our members has issued a challenge to all sitting and prospective candidates to take the time during the general election campaign to find out about the lives of people living in or working in care homes or the provision of domiciliary care services.
The intention is to challenge sitting and prospective candidates to spend part of a shift in a care home of their choice in their constituency. We believe that we have heard the rhetoric, we now want politicians to demonstrate their commitment to the long term sustainability of social care through actions.
We have included in the pack a letter that will enable you to issue the challenge personally. We also enclose a briefing document to be given to candidates when they visit your care home and draft press releases for your use.
The campaign will be coordinated from our headquarters in London by Sheila Scott our Chief Executive.
I hope you will support the campaign and I look forward to working with you all to highlight the reality of the challenges we face in the delivery of quality services despite the complexities of legislation and funding issues.
With very best wishes.
Yours sincerely,

Nadra Ahmed OBE
Chairman
